A left foot seen from above: three toes and the heel behind. Where the foot is drawn is where it has come to rest, which is the sense it kept.

用用法

• To stop/halt - 停止 (tíngzhǐ) cease, 禁止 (jìnzhǐ) forbid, 防止 (fángzhǐ) prevent.
• 防止 (fángzhǐ) = stop something bad from happening (防止事故, prevent accidents); 阻止 (zǔzhǐ) = physically block/stop someone acting.
• 到…为止 (dào…wéizhǐ) = up until: 到目前为止 (dào mùqián wéizhǐ) up to now; 截止 (jiézhǐ) = deadline/cut-off.
