How it is used
- A part/portion/section of a whole - 大部分 (dà bùfen) most; 一部分人 (yí bùfen rén) some people; 这部分内容 (zhè bùfen nèiróng) this section.
- Neutral tone fen. Contrast 部门 (bùmén, a department/division of an organization) - same 部 but different word.
- Very common for splitting things: 分成三部分 (fēnchéng sān bùfen) divide into three parts.
