How it is used
- Points to a manner or degree already established - 别那样说 (bié nàyàng shuō) don't talk like that; 像他那样努力 (xiàng tā nàyàng nǔlì) work hard the way he does.
- Modifies verbs/adjectives (that + so), unlike 那个 (nàge) which points at a thing - 那样冷 (nàyàng lěng) that cold, not 那个冷.
- Near-mirror of 这样 (zhèyàng, this way): 那样 is the distal/there version, 这样 the near/here version.
