- Regret / a pity - 很遗憾 (hěn yíhàn) it's a real pity / so sorry to hear that; 感到遗憾 (gǎndào yíhàn) feel regret.
- A polite, somewhat formal way to express sympathy or disappointment about an outcome you couldn't change. Not personal guilt - that's 后悔 (hòuhuǐ, regretting one's own choice).
