How it is used
- 'To open to traffic' - of a new road, bridge, or rail line - 大桥正式通车 (dàqiáo zhèngshì tōngchē) the bridge officially opened to traffic.
- A milestone event verb; often 正式通车 (formally opened). Contrast 通航 (open to shipping/flights) and 通电 (connect electricity).
- Also 'a place has transport service': 村里通车了 the village now has bus service.
