How it is used
- To accommodate / give in to someone by lowering your own standards - 你不能一味迁就孩子 (nǐ bùnéng yíwèi qiānjiù háizi) you can't just keep indulging the child.
- Implies bending your principles or preferences to please another, often with a mildly negative tone (相互迁就 mutual give-and-take).
- 迁就 = yield/adapt to accommodate someone; distinct from 将就 (jiāngjiu, to make do with a less-than-ideal thing). 迁就 is about people; 将就 about circumstances.
