How it is used
- A written-register "comparatively / relatively" placed before an adjective - 情况较为复杂 (qíngkuàng jiàowéi fùzá) the situation is relatively complicated.
- More formal than spoken 比较 (bǐjiào); you meet 较为 in reports and essays, rarely in casual speech.
- Softens a claim: 较为 means "on the more ... side," not an outright extreme.
