Characters
How it is used
- To trample - literally underfoot, but very often figurative - 请勿践踏草坪 (qǐng wù jiàntà cǎopíng) please keep off (don't trample) the grass.
- Strongly figurative for violating and crushing what should be respected: 践踏人权/尊严 (jiàntà rénquán/zūnyán) to trample on human rights/dignity.
- Carries moral outrage in the abstract sense - heavier than 踩 (cǎi, to step on), which is just physical.
