- The sport of diving off a board - 她是跳水冠军 (tā shì tiàoshuǐ guànjūn) she's a diving champion.
- Very common in a figurative finance sense: prices/stocks plunging straight down - 股价跳水 (gǔjià tiàoshuǐ) the share price crashed.
- For casually jumping into water to swim, 跳进水里 (tiào jìn shuǐ lǐ) is more natural; 跳水 implies the competitive dive or the vertical-drop image.
