How it is used
- Right in front of / in someone's presence - 到我跟前来 (dào wǒ gēnqián lái) come here in front of me.
- Marks the immediate vicinity of a person: 在父母跟前 (zài fùmǔ gēnqián) at one's parents' side.
- Also 'just before (a date/event)': 春节跟前 (Chūnjié gēnqián) right before Spring Festival. Colloquial.
