- The text/passage in a lesson - measure word 篇 (piān): 这篇课文 (zhè piān kèwén) this lesson text.
- It's the reading passage inside a textbook, not the book itself (that's 课本 kèběn) nor an essay you write (作文 zuòwén). 课 (lesson) + 文 (text).
