How it is used
- A promise (the words pledged) - 履行诺言 (lǚxíng nuòyán) to keep a promise; 违背诺言 (wéibèi nuòyán) to break one's word.
- Somewhat formal noun. Pairs with 履行/兑现 (fulfill) and 违背 (break).
- Near 承诺 (chéngnuò), which is both verb and noun and more common; 诺言 is noun-only and a bit more literary.
