How it is used
- 'Many / a lot of' - 许多人 (xǔduō rén) many people; 许多年 (xǔduō nián) many years.
- Slightly more written/literary than 很多 (hěn duō, a lot): interchangeable in meaning, but 许多 feels a touch more formal.
- Unlike 很多, it doesn't need or take 很; you say 许多 directly before the noun.
