How it is used
- To make a concession / give ground - 双方都不肯让步 (shuāngfāng dōu bùkěn ràngbù) neither side will back down.
- Negotiation/conflict register; yielding a point to reach agreement.
- Verb-object (让 yield + 步 step); can split: 让一步 (ràng yí bù) give a little ground. Grammatically also 'concessive' (让步状语).
