- To order goods / place an order for purchase - 订购机票 (dìnggòu jīpiào) book air tickets; 网上订购 (wǎngshàng dìnggòu) order online.
- Commercial; specifically ordering something to buy, more formal than everyday 买 (mǎi).
- Contrast 预订 (yùdìng, to reserve/book): 订购 stresses purchasing goods, 预订 stresses reserving in advance.
