How it is used

  • One's words and deeds together - 言行一致 (yánxíng yízhì) words match actions; 言行不一 (yánxíng bù yī) to not practice what one preaches.
  • Formal; judges a person's integrity by whether speech and conduct align.
  • 言 = words, 行 = actions (here 行 read xíng).

Example sentences

  • 注意言行! Zhùyì yánxíng!Be careful what you say.
  • 他衣着像个绅士,言行举止却像个小丑。 Tā yīzhuó xiàng gè shēnshì, yánxíngjǔzhǐ què xiàng gè xiǎochǒu.His dress is that of a gentleman, but his speech and behavior are those of a clown.
