- To experience firsthand and broaden one's horizons; also the resulting insight/savvy - 见识一下 (jiànshi yíxià) get a taste of / check it out; 长见识 (zhǎng jiànshi) broaden one's horizons.
- 识 is toneless shi. Colloquial-warm; about worldly exposure and the wisdom it brings.
- Verb ('experience it') and noun ('one's breadth of experience/insight') both common.
