How it is used
- To perform on stage / a performance - 表演节目 (biǎoyǎn jiémù) put on a program, 精彩的表演 (jīngcǎi de biǎoyǎn) a brilliant performance.
- Both verb and noun; near 演出 (yǎnchū), but 演出 leans to the staged event/show while 表演 leans to the act of performing itself.
- Can also mean 'put on an act / for show' - 别表演了 (bié biǎoyǎn le) quit the theatrics.
