How it is used

  • End / finish (an event, meeting, period) - 会议结束了 (huìyì jiéshù le) the meeting is over; 比赛还没结束 (bǐsài hái méi jiéshù) the game hasn't ended.
  • Intransitive by nature (something ends). To 'finish doing X' use 完 (wán): 做完 (zuòwán) finish doing, not 结束做.
  • 结 reads jié here (knot/conclude), not jiē. Contrast 完成 (wánchéng), which stresses accomplishing a task successfully rather than merely stopping.
