How it is used
- Get married - 他们结婚了 (tāmen jiéhūn le) they got married. A verb-object compound, so it splits: 结过婚 (jié guo hūn) have been married, 结了三次婚 (jié le sān cì hūn) married three times.
- To marry a specific person, use 跟/和…结婚 (gēn/hé… jiéhūn), not 结婚 + person directly: 她跟他结婚 (tā gēn tā jiéhūn) she married him.
- Contrast 结婚 (the event/state of getting married) with 婚礼 (hūnlǐ, the wedding ceremony).
