真正 zhēnzhèng genuine
genuine; real; true
How to remember 真正: 真 truly + 正 upright = genuine.
Characters
How it is used
- 'True/genuine' as an adjective before a noun - 真正的朋友 (zhēnzhèng de péngyou) a true friend; or adverb 'really, truly' - 我真正理解了 (wǒ zhēnzhèng lǐjiěle) I truly understood.
- Stresses authenticity versus what merely looks the part; contrast 真的 (zhēn de, 'really' as emphasis/confirmation).
- Not used to answer 'is that so?' - for that you'd say 真的吗. 真正 modifies nouns/actions to mark them as the real deal.
