Characters
How it is used
- Marks a conclusion you're drawing - 'it seems/apparently': 看来他不来了 (kànlái tā bù lái le) looks like he isn't coming.
- Usually sits at the front of the clause as a comment, often after 现在/这样 (xiànzài/zhèyàng). Add 在我看来 (zài wǒ kànlái) 'in my view' to attribute the judgment to yourself.
- Distinct from 好像 (hǎoxiàng) 'seems like' - 看来 draws an inference from evidence, 好像 hedges a resemblance.
