How it is used
- A school class as an organizational unit/homeroom - 我们班级有三十个学生 (wǒmen bānjí yǒu sānshí ge xuésheng) our class has thirty students.
- More formal/administrative than plain 班 (bān), which is what you actually say in speech: 我们班 (wǒmen bān). 班级 appears in written and official contexts.
- Different from 课 (kè), a class session/lesson - 班级 is the group of pupils, not the period you sit through.
