How it is used
- Law / statute as a body of rules - 遵守法律 (zūnshǒu fǎlǜ) obey the law; 法律问题 (fǎlǜ wèntí) a legal issue.
- Abstract and collective. Contrast 法院 (fǎyuàn, court) and 律师 (lǜshī, lawyer). 违反法律 (wéifǎn fǎlǜ) to break the law.
- Note 律 is lǜ (rounded ü). Neutral, formal register - the system of law, not a single regulation (that's 法规 fǎguī).
