How it is used
- To inspect or go over something for problems - 检查作业 (jiǎnchá zuòyè) check the homework, 检查身体 (jiǎnchá shēntǐ) get a physical exam.
- Both verb and noun (身体检查 a checkup). Broader than 检 alone; the pair 检 + 查 (investigate) means a thorough looking-over, not a quick glance.
- Note 检 is jiǎn here, not to be confused with 检 in 检察 (procuratorate).
