- To emerge into view / become apparent - 效果逐渐显现 (xiàoguǒ zhújiàn xiǎnxiàn) the effect gradually shows, 真相显现 (zhēnxiàng xiǎnxiàn) the truth comes to light.
- Formal; for something previously hidden becoming visible or manifest. Contrast 出现 (chūxiàn, simply appear/occur), which lacks the 'reveal what was latent' nuance.
