How it is used
- A large historical age or era - 信息时代 (xìnxī shídài) the information age, 那个时代 (nàge shídài) that era.
- Contrast 时代 (a whole epoch) with 年代 (niándài, a decade) and 时期 (shíqī, a phase within an era): 时代 is the grandest scale.
- Also refers to one's own life-stage: 学生时代 (xuésheng shídài) one's student days.
