- An article / essay / piece of writing - 写文章 (xiě wénzhāng) write an article, 一篇文章 (yì piān wénzhāng) one article.
- Measure word 篇 (piān). Also an idiom 做文章 (zuò wénzhāng) = to make an issue of something.
- Contrast 论文 (lùnwén), an academic paper/thesis; 文章 is any prose piece, essay, or write-up.
