How to remember 放假: 放 put + 假 fake = to have a holiday or vacation.

How it is used
- To get time off from school or work - 学校放假了 (xuéxiào fàngjià le) school is on break, 放三天假 (fàng sān tiān jià) get three days off (note it splits).
- Opposite of 上班/上学. Distinguish 度假 (dùjià), which is actively spending/taking a vacation somewhere; 放假 is simply the days off being granted - 明天要上班 (míngtiān yào shàngbān) have to work tomorrow.
