How it is used
- To watch/tune in to a TV program or broadcast - 收看新闻 (shōukàn xīnwén) watch the news; 收看直播 watch the livestream.
- Broadcast-media register (announcers say 欢迎收看 welcome to the program). More formal than everyday 看电视 (kàn diànshì).
- Parallel to 收听 (shōutīng, to listen to radio). 收 = to receive (a broadcast).
