How it is used
- To butt into a conversation, interrupt someone speaking - 大人说话,小孩别插嘴 (dàrén shuōhuà, xiǎohái bié chāzuǐ) when adults talk, kids shouldn't cut in.
- Specifically verbal interruption. Contrast 打断 (dǎduàn, cut off/interrupt) and 插手 (chāshǒu, meddle in an affair, not speech).
