How it is used
- To rank / a ranking position - 排名第一 (páimíng dì-yī) rank first, 世界排名 (shìjiè páimíng) world ranking.
- Both verb and noun; about ordinal position in a list. A separable verb (排名靠前 ranked near the top).
- Common in sports, universities, sales charts. Contrast 名次 (míngcì), the placed position itself.
