How it is used
- Plan / intend to - 我打算明年去中国 (wǒ dǎsuàn míngnián qù Zhōngguó) I plan to go to China next year; also a noun: 你有什么打算 (nǐ yǒu shénme dǎsuàn) what are your plans?
- Softer and more personal than 计划 (jìhuà, a formal plan/scheme): 打算 is what you intend, 计划 is a laid-out plan or project.
- 打 here is dǎ but the sense is idiomatic ('reckon/intend'), not 'to hit'.
