How it is used
- The shouted slogan word: 打倒帝国主义 (dǎdǎo dìguózhǔyì) Down with imperialism! - chanted, on banners and in demonstrations.
- Literally to knock/beat down (一拳把他打倒 knock him down with a punch), but by far most common as the political rallying cry.
- For the neutral verb overthrow a regime or theory, use 推翻 (tuīfān); 打倒 is the emotive, sloganized version.
