How it is used
- A hand fan - 扇扇子 (shān shànzi) to fan oneself; 一把扇子 a fan (measure word 把).
- The handheld fan you wave. Note the character 扇 is also read shān as a verb 'to fan'. An electric fan is 电扇/风扇 (diànshàn/fēngshàn), not 扇子.
- 折扇 (zhéshàn) = folding fan.
