How it is used
- A personal wish or willingness - 尊重本人意愿 (zūnzhòng běnrén yìyuàn) to respect a person's own wishes.
- Softer and more about desire/consent than 意志 (yìzhì, willpower): 意愿 is what you want, 意志 is the strength to do it.
- Common in contexts of choice and consent: 个人意愿 (gèrén yìyuàn) personal wishes, 违背意愿 (wéibèi yìyuàn) against one's will.
