How it is used
- The total (as a number/sum) - 参加者的总数是五百 (cānjiāzhě de zǒngshù shì wǔbǎi) the total number of participants is 500.
- A noun for the aggregate figure, unlike the adverb 总共 (in total). You report a 总数; you spend 总共 X.
- Common in statistics and counts: 总数达到 (the total reaches).
