How it is used
- 'Each other / one another', a somewhat formal reciprocal - 彼此了解 (bǐcǐ liǎojiě) understand each other; 彼此信任 mutual trust.
- More written/polite than the spoken 互相 (hùxiāng). Doubled as 彼此彼此 (bǐcǐ bǐcǐ) it's a modest reply meaning 'same to you / likewise'.
- Literally 彼 (that side) + 此 (this side), i.e. both parties.
