How it is used
- Fortunately / luckily - signals relief that something bad was narrowly avoided - 幸亏你提醒我 (xìngkuī nǐ tíxǐng wǒ) luckily you reminded me.
- Typically the main clause then states the good outcome, often with 否则/不然: 幸亏带了伞,不然就淋湿了 (…bùrán jiù línshī le) lucky I brought an umbrella, or I'd have got soaked.
- Near-identical to 幸好 (xìnghǎo); both are spoken-friendly, 幸亏 feels a touch more emphatic about the near-miss.
