How to remember 并且: 并 to combine + 且 moreover = and.

How it is used
- Connects two verbs/clauses to add a further, related point - 'and moreover' - 他学习努力，并且成绩很好 (tā xuéxí nǔlì, bìngqiě chéngjì hěn hǎo) he studies hard, and moreover gets good grades.
- Links predicates or clauses, not two nouns; for 'A and B' nouns use 和 (hé). You can't say 苹果并且香蕉.
- More formal than a bare 而且 (érqiě) in some contexts but largely interchangeable; often reinforces a forward, escalating addition.
