How it is used
- The eaves - the lower edge of a roof that overhangs the wall - 雨水从屋檐滴下来 (yǔshuǐ cóng wūyán dī xiàlai) rainwater drips from the eaves.
- Concrete architectural noun; also lives in the proverb 在别人屋檐下,不得不低头 (under someone else's roof you must bow your head), i.e. yield when dependent on others.
- Don't confuse with 屋顶 (wūdǐng, the whole rooftop); 屋檐 is specifically the overhanging edge.
