How it is used
- A married couple as a pair - 他们是一对老夫妻 (tāmen shì yí duì lǎo fūqī) they are an old married couple. Often used with 俩: 夫妻俩 (fūqī liǎ) the two of them as husband and wife.
- Near-synonym 夫妇 (fūfù) means the same but is more formal/written (used on invitations, in news); 夫妻 is the everyday, spoken choice.
