How it is used
- Somewhere other than where you are - out of town / another part of the country: 他是外地人 (tā shì wàidìrén) he's from elsewhere; 去外地出差 (qù wàidì chūchāi) travel out of town for work.
- Relative to your current location; the opposite is 本地 (běndì, local) - 本地人 (běndìrén) a local.
- Not the same as 外国 (wàiguó, abroad) - 外地 is still within the country.

- 我经常去外地出差。 Wǒ jīngcháng qù wàidì chūchāi.I frequently go on business trips to other places.
