How to remember 因此: 因 because + 此 this = therefore.

How it is used
- 'Therefore / for this reason' - draws a conclusion from what precedes - 他生病了，因此没来 (tā shēngbìng le, yīncǐ méi lái) he was ill, therefore didn't come.
- More formal/written than 所以 (suǒyǐ, so); common in essays and reports. Often follows a stated cause directly.
- Note: unlike 因为…所以, you don't usually pair 因为 with 因此 in the same sentence.
