How it is used
- A respectful term of address meaning "everyone," always directly followed by a noun for the people addressed: 各位老师 (gèwèi lǎoshī) esteemed teachers, 各位同学 (gèwèi tóngxué) fellow students.
- Used to open a speech, email, or announcement - polite and slightly formal register.
- Not used as a bare pronoun the way 大家 dàjiā "everyone" is; 各位 needs that following noun to sound natural.
