How it is used
- To turn into / become - in the frame A变成B: 水变成了冰 (shuǐ biànchéng le bīng) the water turned to ice.
- Stresses transformation/change of state; contrast 成为 (chéngwéi), more formal, for taking on a role or status: 成为医生 (chéngwéi yīshēng) become a doctor.
- 成 here is a resultative complement, so 变 (change) + 成 (into) = the change completes.
