- 发达国家 (fādá guójiā), developed country, is the collocation every learner meets first.
- Also describes a body part or sense as well-developed: 肌肉发达 (jīròu fādá) - muscular.
- Different from 发展 (fāzhǎn), the verb for the ongoing process of developing: 发达 names the resulting advanced/flourishing state, 发展 names the act of developing.
