How it is used
- Adverb placed before the clause, signaling "no matter what, this holds": 反正我不去 (fǎnzhèng wǒ bú qù) - I'm not going, anyway.
- Very common in spoken Chinese to shut down alternatives or shrug off other options: 反正你说什么我都不听 - whatever you say, I'm not listening.
- Different from 总之 (zǒngzhī), which wraps up a summary of what was just said - 反正 dismisses conditions rather than concluding a list of points.
