How it is used
- To take part in / be involved in - 参与讨论 (cānyù tǎolùn) take part in the discussion; 参与决策 (cānyù juécè) be involved in decision-making.
- Slightly formal; stresses active involvement/a stake, contrast 参加 (cānjiā), the everyday 'attend/join' an event or organization.
- So you 参加 a wedding, but 参与 a project - 参与 implies contributing, not just showing up.
