How it is used
- About to / on the verge of - 即将开始 (jíjiāng kāishǐ) about to begin; 即将到来 (jíjiāng dàolái) approaching.
- A formal/written adverb; in speech you'd say 快要…了 (kuàiyào…le) or 马上 (mǎshàng). Common in announcements and news.
- Precedes the verb and needs no sentence-final 了: 列车即将进站 (lièchē jíjiāng jìn zhàn) the train is about to arrive.
